Effective keyword targeting strategies

keyword targeting strategiesTrying everything when it comes to keywords is not the solution to effective keyword targeting.
Rather look for the diamond in the rough and concentrate on extracting it.
When you are successful in identifying the areas of growth potential, you can make your website generate more sales at the end of the day.

The key to success is to know where you could find the biggest traffic that would lead to revenue increases.
It would be the “low hanging fruit” of search engine marketing, when you implement small changes and make a few quick fixes to your current keywording strategy to help you reap rich rewards.

There are three steps to reaping the rewards from a “low hanging fruit”:

  1. Act
  2. Gather
  3. Prioritize

1. Gather data that is relevant

Find out what your audience is looking for and which keywords they are typing into the search engine, what their intentions are while searching, and whether it is to learn more about your product or to compare your product with that of your competitors by hiring the services of a search engine marketing consultant.

After you have gathered the basic data, find out more about whether you are focusing on the right keywords or not and whether the keywords you use while marketing online are the same as what the customer’s type in on a search engine.

Before you can run a growth analysis, make sure you collect the right keywords for your digital keywording strategy.

a. Use Google Analytics – Visit the report page in order to get a list of top keywords and phrases that have sent search engine traffic to your website.
b. Use Google Adwords – Export the data from any of your past PPC campaigns to include in your ever growing list.
c. Google Webmaster tools – Attach all the keyword data from your Google Webmaster tools account into one spreadsheet.
d. Internal site search – Collect the keywords that your visitors type in on internal search tools of your web store.
e. Google keyword planner – Type the web address of your web store and Google keyword planner will give you a list of keyword suggestions it thinks is relevant to your site.

2. Prioritize your targets
Now that you have a huge list of keywords with you, begin to use them to your advantage.

a- Keywordtool.io – You can get keywords that are the result of real user queries on the internet.
b- Google Correlate – You can correlate words and topics using this tool to get keyword suggestions for your products.
c- SEMrush – It can provide keywords and data on ads of your competitors.
d- OpenSite Explorer – You can investigate your competitor’s backlinks using this tool.

3. Take action
You can easily act on your data now that you have the right keywords necessary for your SEO campaign.
