How Gurus Build Email Lists

Mailing ListEveryone knows that the money is in the list.
Even though I’ve personally met a few marketers that made good money without an email list, the vast majority of successful marketers do email marketing.
You really can’t beat it.

You get to build relationships with people, help them solve their problems, and get paid for it.

What else could you ask for?

Yet most marketers never even try to build a list.  Or if they do try, they go about it the wrong way.

How do I know that it’s the wrong way? Because I’ve been there, done that. I’ve tried some of those poor methods and just never got great results.
To help you avoid those same mistakes, I wanted to share with you what’s working for me.
I personally think that this is the best way to build a list- for multiple reasons.

What method am I talking about? Creating and selling your own product.

I know, I know- affiliate marketing is “easier”. You don’t need to create your own product to get started, so that’s the route to go!
Right? Isn’t that what you’ve been told?

Well here’s a dirty little secret- most super affiliates also sell their own products.
Why? Let’s take a look at a few reasons to master product creation.

Reason #1: Affiliates
Do you realize how many people are affiliates these days? There are tens of thousands of people trying their hand at affiliate marketing.
And even though some of them aren’t good at it, any traffic is better than no traffic.
Why not be the one receiving traffic from their hard work?
Think about it- let’s say you were trying to drive all of your own traffic to a squeeze page.
Maybe after a few months of work, you can get 100 visitors a day to your site.
But if you have 100 affiliates driving traffic- and each only sends 10 visitors a day- that’s 1,000 total visitors a day!
You can get a lot of subscribers with those numbers.
Besides, having affiliates promote for you allows you to create relationships. Relationships lead to…

Reason #2: Joint Ventures
Joint ventures happen left and right in the IM world.
You, the product owner, go to a good affiliate and say “hey- I see you’re driving lots of great traffic, let me give your subscribers a discount on my product.”
And because you’re the product owner, you can do that!

Your affiliate is happy, your affiliate’s subscribers (now your clients) are happy, and you’re happy. Win-win-win.
But it doesn’t stop there. Even though having affiliates and setting up joint ventures are great, there’s more to it.

Reason #3: Flexibility
When you own your own product, you can promote it any way that you want.
Craigslist? Sure- as long as you aren’t breaking their terms of use.
eBay? Yup- just sell it as a DVD.
Offline fliers? Car decals? Radio ads?
Yup, yup, and yup. You don’t need to get permission, you get to keep 100% of the profits, and you’ll build a solid name for yourself.
Which leads to…

Reason #4: Branding
If you’re only acting as an affiliate, what’s your brand? How are you building trust and recognition in the marketplace? It’s going to be tough.
Now, let’s say that you own a product. You have a weight loss product that is getting great reviews and results for its users.
If you play your cards right, you can make it a huge, huge company.
It can be on Facebook, television, billboards, the radio, big news networks- all over the place!
But again- if you’re solely playing the affiliate card, you can’t really do that.
Now let’s talk about the last reason…

Reason #5: Massive Affiliate Commissions
So now you’ve built up a name for yourself, done some JVs, and have affiliates regularly promoting your product.
As you get dozens or even hundreds of subscribers a day- you’re now in an amazing position for affiliate marketing.
Every email you send out might have a few hundred- or thousand- opens.
This will likely lead to a few sales, resulting in hundreds or thousands of dollars a day.
Remember, this is in addition to the money you’re making from selling your product every day.
This is how the big boys and girls do it. And you can either choose to keep creating new products, or spend the majority of your time finding high quality products for your subscribers.

So have I convinced you to delve into product creation yet?
